Our Goal: Measuring Impact Scientifically

Through research collaborations and our impact management system, we aim to measure and understand the local impact of our holistic approach. This enables us to live up to the high standards we set for our work as a social enterprise.

Verified Impact Token AGT (V.I.T.A.)

The inauguration of our Verified Impact Token AGT (V.I.T.A.) marks a pivotal moment for Africa GreenTec, ushering in a new era of impact. We are revolutionizing transparency and evidence, focusing on the measurement, validation, and verification of achieved impact. Unlike conventional CO2 certificates centered solely on emissions reduction and SDG 7 (climate protection), V.I.T.A. takes a comprehensive approach. Our token encapsulates not just carbon reduction but also embraces principles of gender equality, education, job creation, and more – all transparent and tradable for everyone.

Our first V.I.T.A. collection mirrors the actual impact achieved at our ImpactSite Amaloul (Niger) and consists of 1,197 tokens priced at USD 29 each. Join us in making a meaningful global impact. By securing your Impact Token, you become an integral part of this transformative journey, contributing to positive change in a transparent and verifiable manner.

The Moment When the Electricity Comes On in the Village Is Beyond Words

Village elders beyond the age of 90 celebrate together with youngsters. A new era is dawning. Not just a feeling and a big party. A real moment of difference. Many have waited all their lives for this, wanting to give new perspectives to the young people, counteract food shortages, connect with the world, and simply enjoy a cold drink. It is no longer pitch dark at night and you can feel safer on the open road. We firmly believe that electricity is the beginning of sustainable development. You can read many of our customers' stories on ImpactBlog.

Renewable Energy as the Key to Sustainable Development

ImpactModel – Our Theory of Change

Through multiple interactions, electricity has direct and indirect, short- and long-term effects. Our ImpactModel shows the effects that we have identified in the course of our field research and are continuously investigating. In this way, the ImpactModel also shows why we do what we do: electricity is the beginning and the prerequisite for sustainable development.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN as a Measure of Impact

SDG 1 No poverty

We define poverty primarily as the lack of opportunities and self-determination. Through electricity, we aim to provide local people with precisely these factors. We observe that productive electricity use in the context of small-scale entrepreneurship, in particular, positively influences socio-economic development in the community (SDG 8) and that jobs create new opportunities and increase incomes. In addition, solar power provides low-cost access to electricity and cost savings in many aspects of daily and business life.

SDG 2 No hunger

SDG 3 Health and well-being

SDG 4 Quality education

SDG 5 Gender equality

SDG 6 Clean water and sanitation

SDG 7 Affordable and renewable energy

SDG 8 Decent work and economic growth

SDG 9 Industry, innovation and infrastructure

SDG 10 Reduced inequalities

SDG 12 Responsible consumption and production

SDG 13 Climate protection measures

SDG 16 Peace, justice and strong institutions

SDG 17 Partnerships for the goals

Africa GreenTec – Impact Management System (IMS)

Provide reliable data on SDG developments to monitor our impact. We measure the impact of our work across multiple dimensions and look at deep effects rather than simple outputs. All metrics are aligned to the SDGs, GIIN IRIS+ and GOGLA standards to ensure comparability and clarity.

How Do We Generate Impact Data?

SmartMeter - 19

Smart Meter Data

Our digital electricity meters (smart meters) continuously collect data on the electricity consumption of each individual customer. This data not only helps us to better understand the consumption behavior of our customers and to have a good overview in operation & maintenance, but also improves our impact measurement. For example, we can derive from the data how many people have access to electricity, how many kilowatt hours are consumed and when, and how much CO2 we save compared to alternative generation technologies that would otherwise be available in the village.

Scientific Surveys

To gain deeper insights into the social impact of our work, there is no way around surveys. This approach also has the advantage that we are very close to our customers, thus better understanding and addressing their problems. We have developed a scientific survey to collect data for standardized indicators. This allows us to go beyond simple output metrics (e.g. number of electrified households) and obtain information on how, for example, our customers' education, income, health, safety and life satisfaction are developing as a result of our work. Our goal is to collect this data at each site before we begin our work and then continuously collect it over the life of our installations. However, this work is still under development.

öffentliche_Daten

Publicly Available Data

In addition, we use publicly available statistics (e.g. from the World Bank or UN organizations) to collect data and, in particular, to contextualize our results. This means that we use these data as benchmarks to better understand and interpret the impact of our work. For example, we compare income increases in one of our villages in Senegal with the general development of household income in Senegal.
