While Africa GreenTec is a social business focused on technical solutions for renewable energy, the Africa GreenTec Foundation primarily works towards empowering vulnerable communities such as women, children and refugees by providing access to educational programs and promoting sustainable development in the field of humanitarian aid. The foundation’s capacity training programs focus on providing skills and knowledge to individuals and communities, particularly in the areas of agriculture, entrepreneurship, and energy. By empowering vulnerable communities in this way, the foundation aims to help them become more self-sufficient and less reliant on external aid.We strive to move beyond traditional development aid by creating a co-operations that fosters a mutual learning process.

In contrast to classic development aid, the association develops projects in which the assets are financed with donations or subsidies, but the operation and sustainable management of the project is financially self-supporting, so that the users of the project earn a sufficient income from the asset.

SOCHILI x Africa GreenTec Foundation e.V.

The Africa Green Tec Foundation and SOCHILI have come together to bring electricity to the people of N’diop, Senegal, where over 50% of the population live without access to electricity. Through their efforts, they are enabling farmers and their families to have access to electricity for the first time, improving their quality of life and opening up new opportunities for them.

In an innovative approach to fundraising, SOCHILI has launched a range of chili sauces that not only add a spicy kick to your meals but also help empower the farmers. Each purchase of a SOCHILI chili sauce donates one day of electricity to the farmers, allowing them to power their homes and businesses.
This initiative is not just about providing access to electricity, but it also aims to promote sustainable and clean energy solutions. By providing solar energy to the farmers, they can reduce their dependence on fossil fuels and contribute towards a cleaner environment.

Through the 1=1 campaign, customers can make a tangible difference in the lives of the farmers and their families.

#Cooltainer4women

Promoting Gender Equality through Entrepreneurship. Africa GreenTec Foundation promotes entrepreneurship in various focus areas. One of them is the development of business models with people (especially women) in rural areas, with the aim of enabling people to earn a regular income that provides access to energy services and solutions with a sustainable, long-term perspective. In partnership with the World Food Program (WFP) and the Ministry of Gender, Social welfare and children, we implemented the Cooltainer4Women project in The Gambia.

Cooltainer4women focuses on training women to run their own business, using self-sufficient, solar-powered, walk-in refrigerators to store and preserve fruits, vegetables, and other perishable foods. The project aims to address the lack of suitable cold storage, boost self-confidence, and support the retention of up to 30 existing local businesses through value chains and business-to-business opportunities.

In February 2023 The Africa GreenTec Foundation team arrived in Gambia to install the Cooltainer4Women on location. A training workshop was conducted, successfully training 10 fish processors on how to operate the Cooltainer.

We believe that empowering women entrepreneurs is crucial to promoting sustainable development and reducing poverty in the region. By promoting gender equality and empowering women, we believe that our work can contribute to building more resilient and sustainable African communities.

The Cooltainer4Refugees

The project aims to address the lack of suitable cold storage facilities in refugee camps. In UNHCR Refugee Camp Mbara in Mauritania, which hosts over 120,000 refugees who have fled Mali due to ongoing terror, oppression, and climate change effects, the refugees face challenges of not being able to return to their hometowns, lack of job opportunities, and basic amenities like electricity and cold chains. With no proper means of storing perishable foods, 40 % of the fruit and vegetable harvests in sub-Saharan Africa go to waste, and smallholder farmers and retailers in the region also suffer losses due to spoilage of their produce.
The Africa GreenTec Foundation is addressing this issue by installing a Cooltainer in Mbara by fall 2023.Africa GreenTec’s Changemakers Program is a comprehensive initiative aimed at empowering local farmers and entrepreneurs in Africa. Through the program, we provide training, resources, and a global network to nurture resilient agriculture and promote entrepreneurship, ultimately working to end hunger and poverty in the continent.

Changemakers Program

Our Program focuses on empowering local farmers and entrepreneurs. Through farmer training, online and offline events, and counseling to fill a directory of local suppliers in Africa, we aim to increase the consumption of family farmed produce and products and promote local marketing that is profitable for everyone in the value chain.

In partnership with the Ghana Food Movement, we’ll be organizing the first in-person forum on local production in West Africa. The forum will bring together stakeholders to discuss the potentials and challenges of local consumption in their region.

Through our industry food tours we want to connect chefs, retailers, politicians, and rural producers, establishing partnerships that will help promote sustainable agriculture and end hunger and poverty in Africa. By working in collaboration with all stakeholders, we strive to create a brighter future for our continent while valuing and celebrating its unique food culture.
