A Joint ImpactSite® for Séro, Mélo and Diadioumbéra

The communities of Séro and Mélo were each electrified with an Amali Solartainer® in August and September 2018. The electrification of the neighbouring village of Diadioumbéra took place in January 2019. With access to sustainable electricity, many small entrepreneurs in the three communities were able to drive their businesses forward and generate more profit, which led to a rapidly increasing  demand for electricity. Therefore, in February 2021, the three Amali Solartainers were replaced with a 152 kWp ground-mounted PV system including a containerised 270 kWh lithium-ion battery storage system. Through a 7.3 km medium-voltage grid, this plant in Séro now also supplies the neighbouring villages of Mélo and Diadioumbéra with solar power. It is the first ImpactSite to empower an entire network of villages.

The three Amali Solartainers that became available have been supplying the communities of Gory Gopela, Ngana and Serentay with solar power since 2022. This is where the mobile design of the Amali Solartainers shows its strengths.

Kayes – A Region of Extremes

The communities of Séro, Mélo and Diadioumbéra are located in the immediate vicinity of each other in the Kayes region, in the border area with neighbouring Mauritania. Low trees, acacias and other heat-resistant bush species characterise the landscape. Temperatures of up to 40 degrees regularly prevail in the region. Séro, Mélo and Diadioumbéra are located on the RN23 national road, which is why many travellers stop at the shops and restaurants in the communities to eat and buy local products.

Outlook – What's Next in Séro, Mélo and Diadioumbéra?

In Séro and the surrounding villages, climate change is already leaving its mark. Long dry seasons and increasing desertification make life difficult for farmers. In addition, there are more and more extreme weather events during the rainy seasons, such as heavy rain and flooding, resulting in water shortages and crop failures. In the future, we can expand our ImpactSite in Séro with ImpactProducts, such as PumpUps® and the FilterUP®. With modern pumps, farmers in the three communities can irrigate their fields more efficiently, and with a water treatment plant, the communities can also benefit from clean drinking water.
